How to Lead a Bible Basics Study

Prepare:

  1. Order Materials: Order Bible Basics on Amazon.

  2. Read Ahead: Familiarize yourself with the material.

  3. Review, Reflect, and Respond Sections: Review and Reflect sections can be done as a large group, with the Respond section in smaller groups or independently.

  4. Review Appendix | Bible Study Guides: Will these be completed in class, out of class, or a combination? Group study or independent or both?

Organize:

  1. Schedule Meetings: Decide on frequency and duration (example: weekly, 1 hour, for 8-12 weeks, or weekly, 2 hours, for 4-8 weeks)

  2. Pick a Location and Invite Participants: Find a place to meet and let people know about the study group and its purpose.

First Meeting:

  1. Introduce Yourself and the Study: Introduce Yourself and the Study: Explain the structure and goals.

  2. Set Expectations: Discuss the format, encourage active participation, and establish ground rules. Remind participants to avoid mentioning denominations or pastors during the class to respect the diversity of church backgrounds and ensure no one feels offended.

  3. Icebreakers: Help participants get to know each other by sharing their name, relationship with the Bible, and goals for the class.

During Each Session:

  1. Start with Prayer: Invite God’s presence and guidance.

  2. Recap Last Session: Briefly review what was covered previously.

  3. Prepare Class: Set expectations of what you will cover for this session.

  4. End with Prayer: Close the session with a prayer.
